To use fingerboard be performed using fingers not like Skateboarding tricks may be performed using fingers feet. Most tricks done on a fingerboard are the same as people do on skateboards. Although fingerboarding was a novelty for years, they became a collectible toy as skateboard manufacturers realized the potential for product branding and profit starting in the 1990s.

Fingerboards are now available as inexpensive novelty toys as well as high-end collectibles, complete with accessories one would find in use with standard-size.

The Deck:   Decks are the major component of a board and where, on a standard skateboard, one would stand. There is a wide variety of decks with material ranging from wood to plastic, to paper. Most commonly, decks are made out of wood, as this gives it more "pop" and a more authentic feel.  This is the board part that your fingers rest on, detached from the wheels, trucks or any other hardware.  They can be slightly different in shape.  They will all have cured ends known as kicks and a curved concave body.

Trucks:  The Trucks connect things together.   One end of the truck is attached to the deck with tiny screws.  The other end is where the wheels are affixed.

Wheels:  This should be clear!  Just know that the wheels of a fingerboard can be basic formed plastic with a hole in the center, or molded plastic with micro ball bearings.

Risers:  The Risers are the small plastic parts that can be found under the bottom truck.   It is used to create more pop when a trick is done, giving the rider more height when doing tricks.

Bushings:  Bushings are the hard plastic or soft PVC pieces that are weaved between the top and bottom trucks. Often bushings will be coupled with washers, using the two together creates a more authentic skateboard look.

Pivot Cups:  The two parts of the truck are connected with a kingpin and a master slot.  When bushings are added often the kingpin and the slot will disconnect. The pivot cup is used to bridge the gap holding the two pieces tightly together.

Grip Tape:   The Grip Tape is the strip that covers the fingerboard deck.  It can range in composition from soft foam to gritty sandpaper.  This can be very different between individuals.  The tape helps the fingerboarder to secure his hold firmly on the board with the tips of his fingers.

Other components for fingerboard players are Finger skate parks, rails, ramps and obstacles, tech deck etc.
